Normally, I use this space to discuss my thoughts on a given subject, or provide as much help as I can to other travelers roaming the area. This time around, I’m in need of some help.
Next month is “Semana Santa”, also known as Easter Break. In Canada, Easter is allotted approximately two or three days for holiday, meaning it’s not normally a highly anticipated week-long fiesta. In Madrid, this time is well-known as a great way to break free from this land-locked capital. Spaniards tend to head for the beach, but us foreigners use this opportunity to travel as far away as possible!
As such, I’ve been presented with many different options for my trip. However, I find myself at a loss in regards to where to travel. For a while, I’ve been thinking about doing a week-long trip to various places in the north of Spain. The only cities I’ve been to north of Segovia have been San Sebastian and Barcelona, meaning there’s still all of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and parts of the Basque Country that need to be explored. On the other hand, I’ve been wanting to re-visit Amsterdam, the city I feel as though I didn’t get to know well enough, along with a couple of other cities further north in Europe. Nice, in the south of France, is also an option, as is Monte Carlo.
If it wasn’t already obvious, it seems as though while I have a general idea of what I could possibly do, I’m not certain on anything yet. Italy is my ideal destination, but it’s been said that Easter is a chaotic time to visit its major cities. For this reason, I’d like to enlist the help of anyone with a spare second and an eye for adventure!
So, if you have any opinion on the matter, your vote in the following poll is appreciated. Furthermore, comments to justify your choice are also welcome. In the end, I hope to have the best trip possible, or at least aspire to that!
Ready? Set. Go!
As an European I can many cities recommend. Amsterdam is great to if you like Grachts ( little rivers) and houseboat sight seeing. Valencia and Sevilla and Granada are next to Barcelona one of my fav to travel . Berlin in Germany is a must especially it changed in the last couple of years and gets really trendy. Hamburg in Northern Germany is worth to see because it has a huge harbor. If you up for reasonable vaca spot, book a flight to Croatia. It is an insider but , it has aquamarine blue water, empty paradise beaches and yummy seafood. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the great suggestions! I’ve been to every place you mentioned except for Croatia. 😛 I do have an interest in Bosnia/Croatia, so I’m going to look into it, definitely!
I’ve never been to any of your choices, but I vote a new country that’s a little farther away, since you have the extra time! (Sweden, Denmark, or Belgium). I initially thought northern Spain as you should get to know the whole country, but figured you may be able to make weekend visits more easily to those various cities instead. Utilize the extra time you have and go somewhere farther! Either way, I’m sure you’ll make a great decision. Can’t wait to see. Good luck!!
P.S. LOVE love love the blog! Amazing writer and great posts! I’ve used it as a resource for many things Madrid, so thank you! Hopefully I’ll be heading that way this fall, we will see. 🙂
…My name’s Betty, I’ve decided to come out of lurking (/stalking) to suggest Istanbul…I haven’t been there (yet), but after learning more about it recently, I feel like you could spend a good week there and explore everything…Oh, how I long to try the street food there (and pet the stray kitties)!!…
